Oil exploration in West Africa: Stockopedia talks to Hassan Hassan of Simba Energy
12 Oct, 2010 On a scouting exercise to Liberia some years ago, Canadian oil and mining consultant Hassan Hassan secured an onshore land package that was later described by geologists as one giant oil seep. Earlier this year, that exploration licence became the sole focus of Simba Energy Inc (TSX-V: SMB, Frankfurt: GDA), which had previously been known as Gold Star Resources. September 24, 2010 - Two weeks ago Chevron Corporation one of the oil and gas industry's super majors suddenly announced that it had been granted approval by the Liberian government to acquire a 70 per cent interest and operatorship in three deepwater concessions in Liberia. West Africa is, of course, a major oil province. There has in the recent past been a world class discovery in Ghana and this is about to begin production in 2010. But there are other more longstanding producers. Chevron itself has interests in Angola, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria and the Republic of the Congo, from which it produced a net average of 430,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2009.
Simba Energy in the News : Liberia on its way to becoming a major oil producer

Companies like Tullow Oil have already set up shop and earlier this month US oil major Chevron said it would start exploration off the Liberian coast.
